Pheasants were first introduced to New Zealand by the acclimatization societies in 1842, trying to establish game birds for hunting. They are common across New Zealand and is always a nice surprise to see one, they have very beautiful plumage but are hard to get a good look at because they have amazing eyesight and can see you coming a long way off! The original of this work was created using ink, gouache paint and polychromos pencils.
