Sam Clark is an artist based in Whakatane New Zealand. He has a Bachelor of fine arts degree from Massey University in Wellington. Sam’s work has been influenced by his upbringing in rural New Zealand and his passion for wildlife and conservation.
His work attempts to connect us with the spiritual aspect of New Zealand’s native flora and fauna and highlight the importance of conservation efforts in the face of so many introduced invasive plant and animal species that threaten our unique ecosystem.
Sam’s method of combining bold, sharp line work with a limited colour palette is achieved using Rotring Rapidograph ink pens, which were traditionally used in architecture and technical drawing before computer drawing programs took over.
